NOPD Retiring ‘Satan’s War’

Satan’s War, a thoroughbred race horse donated to the NOPD’s Mounted Division in 1992, will be retired soon. In recent months he has shown symptoms of Cushing’s Disease, which affects the muscles.

According to the NOPD, Satan’s future retirement home will be New Heights Therapeutic Riding in Folsom, a center designed for special needs children and disabled veterans.

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Satan’s War several months ago as he celebrated 20 years with the NOPD. He is the grandson of Kentucky Derby winner Secretariat…and helped me put together a story (below) of which I’m very proud. Watch it below.
