George Semmes, a New Orleans man with 10 DWI arrests since 1984, has managed to avoid prosecution for nearly 30 years. That lengthy streak is scheduled to end later this month when he goes on trial for two of the DWI cases. In this I-Team follow up to my original story in February, we hear from George Semmes (briefly), his lawyer and a legal analyst.

At the end of Friday night’s 10 p.m. newscast, I inadvertently launched my pen across the studio. Nice end to the week.
Satan’s War, a thoroughbred with 20 years of service to the NOPD, is the grandson of racing legend Secretariat. I loved doing this story. The photographer I worked with, Megan Spencer, did a phenomenal job shooting and editing it.
In the oil-stained marshland of Bay Jimmy in Plaquemines Parish, there is reason to be optimistic two years after the biggest oil disaster in U.S. history. While extensive oil damage is still visible and many challenges remain, there is also new growth in places where marsh grass was once feared lost.
This is my story that aired on Friday, the two-year anniversary of the spill. It features the view from the air and water, and interviews with Plaquemines Parish president Billy Nungesser and the president of the BP Gulf Coast Restoration Organization, Mike Utsler.

My day started at 8 a.m. at Lakefront Airport and ended in the same place around 8:30 p.m. Here’s a recap of our air/boat tour to the areas affected by the BP oil spill.
My full story airs tonight on WDSU News at 10.
Matt Lauer will stick around to co-host ‘Today’ on NBC for a long time.
On this morning’s show, Lauer announced the signing of his long-anticipated new contract.
Lauer has been a fixture on ‘Today’ since 1994 and the show has been number one since 1995. Often when you see people on TV, then meet them, the reality is different than the image you’ve conjured in your mind. I met Lauer in 2008 and, to my relief, the reality was that he acts the same in person as he does on TV. I’m happy he’ll be around for years to come. No offense to Ryan Seacrest…
Here’s this morning’s humorous announcement, which includes a Keith Olbermann reference.
This is the best news I’ve heard all week.
WDSU sports anchor Fletcher Mackel and I discuss the likelihood of Bill Parcells coaching the Saints.
An hard-working and unsuspecting Travers Mackel is ambushed in the newsroom by a rogue news anchor (me).
WJAR-TV (Providence, RI) reporter Katie Davis was recording a standup when a rogue rooster charged her and nipped at her leg. Funny stuff.
