Some staffers at The Wall Street Journal had a lot of time on their hands last Friday night as they tried to figure out how much baseball play-by-play men talk. They actually listened to the first scoreless inning of every team’s home broadcast last Friday—tally counter in hand—and calculated how many words they uttered per minute.

Every radio play-by-play announcer is listed and the Dodgers’ Vin Scully tops the list.
