Gorgeous Sunday, Great Parade

The Metairie Road St. Patrick’s Day parade runs just a few feet from our house, so we decided to have a party. I rode in the parade a few times as a kid but hadn’t been to it since the early 1990’s. I was sick for a few days leading up to it (the rest of my family, too) and hardly had a voice yesterday, but the party had to go on!

The weather couldn’t have been better. The sights of the parade were interesting, to say the least. The sounds included…oh, what was it…hmm….oh yeah, the Ying Yang Twins. Over and over and over. Many of the floats had a Saints theme. And we caught plenty of cabbage. For those who have never been to a St. Patrick’s Day parade in New Orleans, cabbage, carrots and potatoes are thrown (really handed down unless you’re unlucky) from the floats.

My 4-year-old had a long day. As the parade started he said, “Daddy, my knees are tired” and “this parade is taking too long.” He lasted a few more minutes then retreated to the house.

It was a long day for us all, but a fun one spent with friends and family.

Today my voice isn’t much better so watch WDSU News at 4, 5 and 10 for some quality entertainment.
