March Madness

One of my brackets. Awful.

Is there a year in recent memory with more torched NCAA hoops brackets than this one?

Michigan State, West Virginia, Butler and Duke. That’s your Final Four. Out of 4.8 million brackets played on ESPN.com, only 200 picked the correct Final Four teams.

I played two brackets. In one, I don’t have any teams left standing and am 19th in the standings out of 22 players. In another, the lone Final Four team I have is Duke. In that one I’m in 7th place out of 23. And I don’t have Duke winning the title. That honor would go to Kentucky, which unceremoniously bowed out after starting 0-20 from 3-point range and finishing just 4 of 32.

But in the end, who really cares about their bracket?

The finishes have been terrific and WWL’s 10 p.m. newscast has been preempted several nights. What more can you ask for? And Gus Johnson is officially my favorite announcer. He has been right up there in years past, but this tourney put him over the top.
