Battling Blight in NOLA

Blight in the New Orleans area has been in the news a lot lately on the local level, but it’s getting noticed nationally as well. An article in USA Today highlights a battle that “seems to be working.”

City officials have used beefed-up code enforcement, federal recovery money and aggressive information campaigns to sell the empty lots and homes and have them developed. Last week, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu kicked off a campaign to step up code enforcement and eliminate 10,000 blighted or vacant properties over the next three years.
