This was the biggest fire I’ve ever seen — six alarms and more than 100 New Orleans firefighters on the scene.
Fellowship Baptist Church at 2101 Prytania caught fire around 8:30 Friday
night and burned for about three hours before being brought under control. A two-story house next to the church also burned.
Power was knocked out along a section of St. Charles Ave. and several blocks in the Jackson Ave./Josephine St. area.
The historic church was built in 1901, had been vacant since Hurricane Katrina and was for sale.
