Summer Funk

The "pain scale" in my doctor's office.

This has been miserable. I started to get sick Friday night between the 5 & 10 p.m. newscasts. Around 9:00 I began to wonder how I was going to get through the 10. My voice was giving out and my head was on the verge of exploding. I made it through, then came home and slept most of the weekend.

So here were are on Monday evening and I’m pecking away at my home computer instead of my work computer, voice still suspect and throat raw from excessive coughing.  It got so bad last night I drank honey for the first time in my life.

I was the last domino to fall in my family — the two kids, the wife then me. It’s always like a glimpse into my future when they get sick. I’m thinking, “Yep, that’s me in a few days.”

After a quick trip to my doctor this morning — and a very effective cortisone shot — things are looking up for tomorrow. But my voice is still weak. We’ll see how that goes.

This summer funk seems to be everywhere. Who else is dealing with it?
