As if the Saints/Falcons rivalry needed any more fuel for its fire. Three Saints players — backup quarterback Chase Daniel, tight end Jimmy Graham and linebacker Will Herring — tweeted Wednesday night about their interesting welcome at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“Bus just got egged after landing in ATL by the ramp workers. Classy!” – Jimmy Graham
“Wow … we start getting eggs thrown (at) us by airport workers! Guess they do hate us!” – Chase Daniel
“First time my bus has been egged by opposing fans! The game “should be fun!!” – Will Herring
That should make for an interesting side story during tonight’s game at the Georgia Dome. It’s a game the Saints need and a game the Falcons (10-1) want badly, considering the Saints handed them their only loss of the season. The Saints have won 11 of 13 against Atlanta and Matt Ryan is just 2-6 in his career against New Orleans. In their last meeting, on November 11 at the Superdome, the Saints won a nail-biter, 31-27. The game left the Falcons frustrated and defiant.
The atmosphere at the Georgia Dome tonight is sure to be charged and physical. I’d put the over/under for the number of personal fouls called at 5. The egg throwing incident, while amusing, will likely fire up the Saints (5-6) even more in a game the team has to have to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.
