Deputy Mayor of Operations
Michelle Thomas serves as Deputy Mayor of Operations. In this capacity, she is charged with significantly enhancing service delivery by improving operational efficiencies and creating greater value for the City’s taxpayers. Before joining the City of New Orleans, Michelle served as Director of Grants with The Ferguson Group, a Washington, DC-based government relations firm. There she advocated on behalf of cities, towns and counties across America to help them secure much needed federal funding for transformative local programs and projects. Previously, Michelle was the highest ranking non-elected official in the City of Newark, NJ, serving as Mayor Cory Booker’s Business Administrator. In this role, she managed all of the City’s departments, prepared annual budgets on behalf of the Mayor, managed federal and state government relations, launched the City’s first non-emergency call center, and served as the City’s Appointing Authority on all personnel matters.
