Through 11 games, Saints quarterback Drew Brees has thrown for 3,647 yards. That’s third best in the NFL (Matthew Stafford, Peyton Manning) and 434 yards away from 50,000 career yards.
With five games left on the schedule, barring injury, Brees will easily surpass the 50,000 mark. Only four quarterbacks in NFL history have done so — Dan Marino, John Elway, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. Considering the sketchy weather that’s expected in Seattle Monday night, it’s unlikely Brees will throw for the necessary yardage against the Seahawks to become the fifth. That would set up the Sunday night game against the Panthers the following week in the Superdome as the one in which he’d likely surpass 50,000.
I wrote about this impending achievement before the season began and highlighted some of Brees’ standout moments with the Saints. It’s been a special run.
