‘GLEASON’ trailer released; film opens locally July 29

Steve Gleason’s emotional, raw documentary titled ‘GLEASON’ debuted to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Since then, it has racked up awards at South by Southwest in Austin and the Seattle International Film Festival.

Here’s a look at the trailer released today.

I’ve seen the film twice and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever watched. You will be lifted up, torn down and you’ll laugh and cry. It’s a must-see.

Gleason, the former New Orleans Saint, was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. The film was compiled using 1,300 hours of video journals recorded by Gleason after learning his wife Michel was pregnant with their first child a month after his diagnosis.

The film debuted in New Orleans on Tuesday at The Orpheum theater during an invitation-only premiere. It will open to the public on July 29 at Canal Place and The Palace in Elmwood. The film will also open in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle on that day.
