Archbishop Aymond says eating meat is OK on St. Patrick’s Day

Since St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday during lent, Archbishop Gregory Aymond has given the ok for Catholics in the Archdiocese of New Orleans to eat meat, with strings attached.

“If a Catholic residing in the Archdiocese of New Orleans wishes to participate in St. Patrick’s Day festivities and desires to eat meat, they may be dispensed and choose another day of the week for abstinence or may choose to perform an act of penance that is a greater sacrifice,” Aymond said.

The Lenten Season began on Ash Wednesday (March 1) and officially ends on Holy Thursday.
