My day started at 8 a.m. at Lakefront Airport and ended in the same place around 8:30 p.m. Here’s a recap of our air/boat tour to the areas affected by the BP oil spill. My full story airs tonight on WDSU News at 10.

BP Tour: Heading Out

A group of 14 of us are about to take off from Lakefront Airport. We have TV and newspaper represented. The Sikorski chopper awaits.

Wednesday’s Agenda: BP Helicopter Ride

Some members of the local media, myself included, are heading to Lakefront Airport in the morning to go up in a BP helicopter to survey areas affected by the oil spill nearly two years later (Friday is the two-year anniversary). We’ll also take a boat tour through affected marshlands. I talked to Plaquemines Parish president […]

Grand Isle: The Beach

Grand Isle, LA  – We just borrowed a golf cart and made a quick trip over to the beach from Bridge Side Marina. It’s clean and beautiful and the water is choppy. No sign of tar balls…or any clean-up crews. The beach is empty until tonight at 7. That’s when a candlelight vigil will take […]

Grand Isle: Oil Spill Anniversary Coverage

Grand Isle, LA – We’re set up at the Bridge Side Marina, getting ready to broadcast the majority of our 4, 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts live from here. As we pulled up to the marina, Gov. Today at 5 on WDSU: Return to Grand Isle

Today on WDSU News at 5, we’ll air my return to Grand Isle report to see how the BP oil spill’s hardest-hit community is coping nearly a year later and look at renewed optimism on the island heading into this tourist season. Below is a slideshow from the visit three weeks ago.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks to all our New Orleans-area viewers (and Twitter followers) for making 2010 a great year. From the Saints Super Bowl championship to the Oil Spill, WDSU has been there. And, like the promo says, we’ll be there in 2011, too! I thank you for being there as well. Here’s to a great 2011.

Grand Isle Beach

This is what’s happening on Grand Isle beach nearly seven months after the BP oil spill. I took these pictures last week when I was shooting my series. Temporary fencing and heavy equipment line the beach and there are 24-hour sand cleaning “stations” set up at various locations.
