“Gayle and I were very proud to stand with our bid team and the entire city of New Orleans in making our presentation today to host the Super Bowl in New Orleans in 2019. While we are disappointed that we were not successful, we congratulate those cities that were awarded the game. We would also […]

Hey ESPN, Lay Off the Pelicans

Look, New Orleans Pelicans will be the name of New Orleans’ NBA franchise next season. Get used to it. ESPN has spent several hours today mocking the name and wondering if anyone in New Orleans will wear the team’s jerseys, shirts and hats. Yes, we will. We’re a prideful city. We’ll rally behind the name […]

Why Sean Payton Will Stay in New Orleans

Saints head coach Sean Payton is the subject of more speculation this morning. And it involves the Dallas Cowboys again.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL voided the last year of Payton’s contract because of certain language that didn’t fly with the league, which could make Payton a free agent coach at the end of this season. The operative word is could because the league will have to determine if this season counts as a year toward Payton’s contract since he will end up being suspended for the majority of it.

While Schefter’s news has created a media firestorm on an otherwise lackluster NFL Sunday, I think it’ll end up being much ado about nothing. First, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett still has a job. He would need to be fired for there to even be an opening in Dallas. If Garrett takes the Cowboys to the playoffs (which he should), he will not be fired. Second, I don’t believe Payton would trade what he has in New Orleans for what he would have in Dallas. Third, I don’t believe Payton would go anywhere else and start over when he has Drew Brees, Darren Sproles and all their friends waiting for him.

[VIDEO] The Superdome in Lights

Saints owner Tom Benson, along with Superdome officials, debuted a new $1.6 million dollar LED exterior lighting system Thursday night. It is the largest installation of its kind in the U.S. and includes five miles of copper wiring. It’s pretty energy-efficient, too — using roughly the same amount of energy it takes to power a […]

On the Field as the Saints Win

If you’re a Saints fan, this is a must-see video. I shot it on my iPhone as the clock ticked down to zero and the Saints won their first Super Bowl title. We charged the field to interview players and I kept the camera rolling. The video is unedited and runs six minutes and 30 […]

More Saints Celebration

Carnival Season Begins

Since today marks the beginning of the 2010 Carnival season, I thought now would be a good time to play catch-up. Stories making Mardi Gras headlines in the past few days include the following: > Celebrity chef Rachael Ray will lead the Krewe of Argus through Metairie this Mardi Gras. > Saints owner Tom Benson […]

Premature Celebration

Classic video. Saints owner Tom Benson thought kicker Garrett Hartley made a 37-yard field goal to give the Saints a win and clinch home field advantage. For a moment, jubilation filled his Superdome suite. Then the next moment came. (via Blog of New Orleans)
